Mountains out of Mole Hills

Some days the mountains are calling, but you really only have the energy for a hill. What is the difference between a hill and a mountain? According to National Geographic Society, "Hills are easier to climb than mountains. They are less steep and not as high. But, like a mountain, a hill will usually have an obvious summit, which is its highest point. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, there is no official difference between hills and mountains." A hill becomes a mountain when it is higher than 1000 feet above sea level.

I can tell you from personal experience today's hill, felt like a mountain. Elevation gain 1246 feet, while officially the bottom of the trail takes off, up and back is only 3 miles ( we did walk a mile and half into the trailhead), this little hill kicked tail! While little Wind Mt elevation gain is only 1138 but its 4.6 miles RT, has felt way easier the hundreds times making that trek. Maybe it is the humidity, the heat or the fact there was not a nice little sitting break at the top to enjoy the view? It really should be named "Ant Hill", there was not even stopping in one place for long to shoot a picture without red ants finding us. With all the information, today's little 6 miles trek could be considered finding my mountain after all. Mountain or hill, "“Climb the mountain not to plant your flag, but to embrace the challenge, enjoy the air and behold the view. Climb it so you can see the world, not so the world can see you.” ― David McCullough Jr."

People tend to make mountains out of hills. The world today seems a little blown out of scope. Realistically, if we treated this C19 virus like we treat influenza. Instead shutting down the country, scaring people into fighting between whether to wear a mask or not and destroying the economy. Treat the the riots like what they are, a destruction of property, violent crimes and stop it like any other criminal act. Ff we treated the possible unjustified accidental killing of a criminal just that, and not made it into a racists issue......all these mole hills would not have erupted into a volcanic mountain.
“I like the mountains because they make me feel small,’ Jeff says. ‘They help me sort out what’s important in life.”― Mark Obmascik
Society needs to step back and sort out what is more important in life and get back to normal living. It can suck the energy, the life and the creativity right out of a person. Don't let it, find your mountain or hill and take it back.

As for the rest of this day, I will look at the wonderment of life through the eyes of a new fawn. Explore new adventures beyond the little den, enjoy the simple pleasures of lush tender greens, still stay close to home and soak in some sunshine to warm the soul. People need to be more like nature and balance the important things in life, respect each other and not take more than you need.

“Mountains are only a problem when they are bigger than you. You should develop yourself so much that you become bigger than the mountains you face.” ― Idowu Koyenikan
