Winter Inspiration

Not everyone is inspired with Winter. As it creeps in and quickly push us indoors. 2 weeks ago it was 80 degrees and Fall colors starting to blossom. Just as colors peak, in came old man Winter, pushing his way in and Fall out fast. Now its 38 degrees, dark grey cloudy skies, heavy winds and yes.....rain. That wonderful rain that does keep Washington the "evergreen state".

The comforts of a warm fire, cozy slippers and steamed coffee take over. Some of us stretch to find comfort and inspiration. It is much easier to cuddle up and hibernate like the bear.

Not for all, there is inspiration in change. The brilliant colors in the forest glisten with rain on the leaves casting brilliant hews of Fall. Capturing the beauty before Winter has its way and knocks it all down. Yesterday Winter gave a shout even try to hide Fall with snow. Yes, first snow falls dipping down crowding out Fall. Inspired yet? Sounds even more like a reason to hibernate inside by the fire with a book and a warm drink.

In the Columbia River Gorge Winter brings on with the heavy rains, rocks tumbling down on to the roads, trees dropping from the winds and puddles building up on roads to make travel not at all enjoyable even treacherous. Hiking trails are muddy and slippery, with still trees and branches falling. Old man Winter tries hard to take over with control and force people inside. Inspired yet? I have not been for months. We were in hot dry conditions with concern of forest fires and 80 degree days. Only a snip shot of Fall to absorb the color with the rapid changes.

Inspiration came back today, despite Old man Winter. The Eagles are returning to the Gorge! The magnificent Bald Eagle. Ironic the symbol for United States of America return right as we roll into election day and then Veterans day. The Eagle a symbol to the USA of strength, pride and courage. The Native America see the Eagle as protection and vigilance. It has been long linked to the expansion of empires, victory of world leaders, and reaching new political and economic heights.

The Eagles have returned bringing inspiration to my heart and soul. Personally, to sit in the silence and listen to the Eagles talk to each other, to watch them soar as the white head stands out against the dark water or last of fall colors. The eagles are just starting to flock in, but watching the show of power over a fish carcass and the screeching display of dominance is powerful. The Eagle's return inspires me to grab my camera with excitement, but maybe also a little hidden message as they return on election time that the problems in our country can also turn around. So Fall back with the time as we just set the clocks back. Enjoy the beauty and nature with each season and all it has to offer.
