Washing the Soul

Today was not tackling any majestic mountain, trekking into 3 tier 75 foot amazing waterfall, or even scaling up a trail to have the miraculous view. Today, was a simple visit of a familiar place. A quiet forest, fauna floor of green, tall tree tops and a meandering trail to just refresh the soul.

There are days we all could easily stay cuddled up in bed or on the couch in pajamas, almost missing a whole day. Not today, well not often in this house. Some days it seems easier to give into the tired feeling and dink around doing much of nothing. Those really are the days to kick yourself in the tail and drag it out to refresh the soul, hit the trail! When the mind is trying to tell you no, make the body say yes and it will be best for both.

A hike does not have to be about climbing the highest trail and reaching the amazing view. sometimes, it is going to an old favorite and reconnecting with nature. Then there are times the view might be hidden behind the clouds, but it will still be amazing.

The stretch of Summer heat and recent dusty trails lead today's journey refreshed. Refreshed with listening to the "pitter - patter", of small droplets falling out of the clouds and hitting the forest canopy. For the first 3 miles it was listening to the gentleness of raindrops with an occasional misting on the face. Nothing beats a rainy day to wash away any negativity you may be facing in your life. If those clouds above your head are turning gray, don’t wish them away. Instead, embrace the drizzle that is about to come. Take some time to step outside and walk in the rain.

“Give thanks for the rain in your life which waters the flowers of your soul.” – Jonathan Lockwood Huie

Breath in the chilly, fresh air, and feel your body relax. The canopy of trees sheltering the trail and keeping it dry. The rich smell of soil from the beginning of the first Summer rain. Not a soul for miles, not even wildlife, just peace in the trees and the soft droplets falling. Loving 70 degrees, shorts and gentle rain on an empty trail. A little rain to wash away the stress and tiredness and bring back a little joy and happiness we all deserve.

“Nana always said the rain was nature’s way of adding sparkle to the outdoors.” – Mehmet Murat Ildan
